Shoelaces

When I walk, I watch my feet
My shoelaces seem to tighten
after every step I take
as if they know I’m about to float
right out of my shoes.
I think somebody replaced
every hair of mine with
fiber-glass. Everything
rubs me the wrong way.
I sleep with my knees
hugged to my chest
and yearn for the day I find
something to fill the space between
Not being able to fall asleep
And never wanting to be awake.
